딱새 - 몸길이 약 15cm, 몸무게 17~18g이다. 수컷은 머리꼭대기에서 뒷목에 이르기까지 잿빛이 도는 흰색이고 멱에서 윗가슴에 걸쳐서는 어두운 검정색이다. 날개는 검정색이고 흰 얼룩이 있다. 아랫가슴에서 배 아래쪽은 붉은 갈색이다. 암컷은 온몸이 연한 갈색이며 날개에는 흰색 부분이 있다. 수컷은 일정한 지역에 텃세권을 갖고 생활한다. 지저귈 때는 꽁지를 위아래로 흔드는 버릇이 있다. 한국에서는 흔한 텃새이다. 번식기에는 깊은 산속에서만 볼 수 있지만 겨울에는 인가 근처나 시가지 공원에도 모습을 드러낸다. 인가 지붕이나 처마 밑에서 번식하며 한배에 5~7개의 알을 낳는다. 먹이는 곤충 이외에 식물의 씨앗이나 열매도 먹는다. 아무르·우수리·중국(북부)·한국에 분포한다. 라고 두산 백과사전에 나와 있습니다.
