미국 동요 / 할아버지 시계

My grandfather's clock was too large for the shelf
So it stood ninety years on the floor
It was taller by far than the old man himself
Though it weighed not a penny weight more

할아버지 시계는 선반에 올려놓기에는 너무 커서
그래서 90년 동안이나 마루에 세워 두었답니다.
시계는 할아버지보다 훨씬 컸어요.
비록 그렇게 무겁지는 않았지만요.

It was bought on the morn of the day that he was born
And was always his treasure and pride
But it stopped short never to go again
When the old man died

할아버지께서 태어나신 날 아침에 우리집에 왔지요
시계는 언제나 우리 할아버지의 보물이자 자랑이었지요.
그러나 할아버지께서 돌아가시던 날
시계는 갑자기 멈추더니 다시는 가지 않았죠

Ninety years without slumbering, tick tock tick tock
His life seconds numbering, tick tock tick tock
It stopped short never to go again
When the old man died

구십 년 동안 쉬지 않고 똑딱똑딱
할아버지의 일생동안 매초를 세고 있었죠 똑딱똑딱
그러나 할아버지께서 돌아가시던 날
시계는 갑자기 멈추더니 다시는 가지 않았죠
